The Data Sensorium is a natural extension of the mission and work of cDACT (Consortium for Digital Arts, Culture and Technology). The core faculty of cDACT come from the Departments of Art, Music, Cultural Studies and Computer Science, all of whom were specifically hired because of their experience and interest in cross-discipline, collaborative work. cDACT faculty and projects seek the intersection between theory and praxis, and between scientific and artistic viewpoints.
Data Sensorium Opening! Stony Brook University – October 21, 2011 – 4-9pm
One of the large projects we are starting this year is the “Data Sensorium,” focusing on the promise and problems of large data sets, working on ways to make them more useful by visualization, sonification or the addition of haptic feedback. cDACT was recently awarded a Brooklyn National Laboratory/Stony Brook University Seed Grant for this project.
